about the artist

Carol discovered her passion for art at a young age and developed her creative work in various art media through her school years. She earned a BA degree in Fine Arts from Indiana University and an MA degree from the University of Texas-Dallas. She has pursued private studies in photography, drawing, sculpture and ceramics.

Her ceramic work is exhibited in galleries and museums and several site-specific commissions are located in California, New York and Texas.  Her art has been featured in numerous group and solo shows in Texas, New York, and California, including the Dallas Art Museum and the San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts. She currently shows her ceramics, sculpture, and drawings in her studio and garden as part of the annual Open Studios Art Tour, sponsored by the Cultural Council of Santa Cruz County, and at Kate Nolan Gallery in Santa Cruz. Her studio is open by appointment.

"I explore correlations between inner experiences and outward perceptions, using a changing vocabulary of forms, surface textures, and layers of colors. I like juxtapositions and transitions between contrasting qualities: light and dark, solid and open, hard and soft, smooth and rough, and concave and convex. Clay is a wonderfully responsive and flexible medium for building organic forms inspired by the natural world, by my dreams and imagination, or by man-made objects. I feel a link to clay workers of ancient times." Carol Eddy
